Life For Evermore … a blessing

I thought that I was going to die but instead I survived and found out that there is a manual that tells us how to live forever. How cool is that?

For the last six  months or so I’ve listed all the occasions where the words ‘live for ever’ are mentioned in my bible. The amount of time these words are mentioned may differ in the various bible translations. In the bible translation I am using at the moment, the King James,  the last six times the words ‘live for ever’ were mentioned are to be found in the book of Revelation.

In a search throughout the King James translation of the bible the words ’live for ever’ come up 28 times in total but only around 19 of these apply to living forever and around 7 of these occasions were royal greetings. That leaves 12 other occasions where the words ‘live for ever’ are mentioned.
Starting in July last year I’ve listed all of these occasions. The very first time the word’s ‘live for ever’ occur in the bible is where God said,

Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

This was after Adam and Even disobeyed God’s commandment which resulted in them being banned from the garden of Eden.

And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Adam and Eve discovered that living forever more goes hand in hand with obedience to our Creator.

I’ve reposted the video because I couldn’t even find it back on my own blog. It is embedded in the first post I wrote, which can be found at the bottom of this really long blogpost that contains all the posts I’ve done on living for ever. Or the video can be found as part of the first post, on its own when I explain where the concept of living for ever comes from.

The Blessing of Life for Evermore

Apart from the previous posts I’ve written, where the words ‘live for ever’ are mentioned, there are other occasions in the bible where living for ever is referred to. It is also mentioned for instance in Psalm 133 as quoted below. And what we discover here is that life for evermore is not to be taken for granted but is a blessing which the LORD bestows upon his faithful and loyal followers.

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!  It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

I like promises and blessings.

I like promises and blessings as much as the next person. What I don’t like is when people misinterpret very clear manuals and take things for granted. For the brief period that my family attended church we sat in pews next to well-meaning parishioners who all seemed pretty comfy in their ‘sureness of being saved.’

It must be wonderful to have such confidence in one’s salvation. All I can think of is the occasions were Jesus referred to a humble tax collector and a Samaritan, who both were doing the right thing and Jesus contrasted them against the so-called ‘religious’ folk.

Just saying that according to scripture ‘living forever’ is not set aside specifically and exclusively for the ‘religious,’ those with their bums on church pews or kneeling down in synagogues.

According to scripture the blessing of living forever is promised to any of us who wants to grab hold of it and decides to abide by GOD’s rules and be part of His posse.

Love to hear your thoughts. Thank you for sharing with me.

You would be the one … better than seven sons

PREVIOUS: I Thought It Was A Little Angel III

What did I learn from being a mum? I learned that it is GOD who gives children and any request in this regard should be addressed to Him.

And Adam knew Eve his wife;
and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said,
I have gotten a man from the Lord.

According to the Bible, we are mere instruments. Later on, in the Bible, we get confirmation of this when we read Sarah complaining to her husband that GOD restraint her from bearing. She was wrong in that GOD restraint her from bearing because Sarah bore a child in her old age. But she was right when she understood that it is up to GOD when and if she were to have a child.

Children are a heritage of The LORD

The Bible tells us that GOD gives the barren woman a home, making her the joyous mother of children and that children are a heritage of the LORD and the fruit of the womb a reward.

We’re told that obeying GOD goes hand in hand with blessings when devout husbands pray for their wife to become pregnant GOD is likely to hear them and when an ‘infertile’ woman named Hannah prayed for a baby, The LORD granted her request also.

The secret wonders of birth belong to GOD

We’re told that the secret wonders of birth belong to GOD and He is in charge.

Finally, we’re told that no one is able to snatch anyone out of GOD’s hand. I like that … a lot.

So what did I learn from all of that? I learned that it is useless to fret over issues to do with my children. My children come from GOD. He is their Father. As such when they misbehave or need help, I talk to Him.

Thank you Father for blessing my children

Thank you, Father, for blessing my children. Both my children are always there for me and if it weren’t for my Angel I possibly wouldn’t be around anymore. She was there when I needed a friend and played a big role in My Story Of Survival.

Do you wanna be my friend

Oh look it’s a little angel,
Oh, look it’s a little angel.
Nevermore grateful
Nevermore jazzed
Life just gained significance

Do you wanna be my friend
Yes I surely do
The mother of an angel
And all because of you

 She loves me no
She loves me yes
It’s abundantly clear
Perfect your mothering
Hold this baby dear

Do you wanna be my friend
Yes I surely do
The mother of an angel
And all because of you

 Her charm is overpowering
Her kindness legendary
The things she gets up to
Uproariously hilarious

Do you wanna be my friend
Yes I surely do
The mother of an angel
And all because of you

 God made me to laugh
Better than seven sons
If I could have picked you myself,
you would be the one

 When I was out cold
You went to bat for me
When I needed help
It was you I did see
My perfect seraphim

Do you wanna be my friend
Yes I surely do
The mother of an angel
And all because of you

May God bless this Angel
Above all others
Just because of
This request of her mother

May God help you accomplish
your mission on earth
in his hands I place you
to whom I gave birth

Do you wanna be my friend
Yes I surely do
The mother of an angel
And all because of you.

Jewish people are excellent record keepers

Jewish people are excellent record keepers. In fact there is not a nation comparable when it comes to chronicling the history of a people. The bible or TORAH as the Jewish people call it, is this history book. The bible records in minute detail the birth of the Jewish nation within a certain time frame and contains in depth documentation of the genealogy of the Jewish nation. If you don’t believe me check out the Books of Numbers in the bible which lists endless names and lineage of the Jewish people.

Why does any of this matter in the context of living for ever?

I tell you why this matters. It matters because within the first few chapters of the bible we are told why no-one automatically receives eternal life. The bible is the only history book on the planet earth which explains how this happened.

It was not always so. In the days of the garden of Eden, both Adam and Eve took living in paradise for granted as if it were their birth right. When they refused to obey God however they were thrown out of the garden of Eden, so that they would not automatically live for ever. From this we can see, that eternal life is not for free. There is a price. What price? The price is obedience. You have to follow what God commands you to do.

Church heaven

If your church tells you that all you have to do is believe and have faith .. I’m telling them to pull the other one. Maybe you’ll go to church heaven if you follow their doctrine. If you like your church buddies you’re already living in paradise and all is good.

If you’re like me however, and the church threw you out because you decided to follow the bible and refused to sign up for church doctrine, then simple faith on its own won’t get you there. Not according to my bible.

Sorry to be the one to burst your bubble. But I think that eternal life is not something to be mucking around about. It is something I take seriously.

Noah’s Ark

Adam and Eve and Joshua and Caleb aren’t the only people showing us where obedience or disobedience gets us.

The majority of American people believe that Noah’s ark is a true story and literally happened. And up to nearly a third of non-believers agree with those sentiments. What about Noah? Noah also taught us that GOD loves obedient people.

At some stage early on in our history humanity had so lost the plot that GOD decided to destroy his creation altogether. It was only because of Noah that he decided to keep a handful to try again. Eight people were saved because of Noah’s obedience to GOD. The rest of humanity was wiped out because of their disobedience.

GOD loves the obedient

When people say that GOD loves us all no matter what … nah, not according to the bible I’m reading. God loves his obedient children and He patiently waits for the disobedient to (re)turn to Him. From reading His Word as well as personal experience I know that he continuously nudges us in the right direction. But if people don’t want to play by the rules … eventually, He’ll pull the plug.

That is what the bible tells us according to Adam and Eve, Noah and his family and Joshua and Caleb.

Demotion because of disobedience

Everyone I ever meet is looking for more happiness. When Eve choose the sweetness over obedience she did so because she mistakenly thought that satisfying her curiosity and taste buds would bring her more happiness than she already had, with Adam following her sheepishly. Adam’s loyalty was clearly misplaced because he followed Eve’s deluded direction instead of telling her where to go. Had he said something like, Are you crazy woman, believing a snake? You know that we’re not to eat from the tree in the midst of the garden! We’ve been told to not even touch that tree, let alone eat from it. Who will you believe, a snake or your Creator? If we’re disobedient and eat from this tree, we’ll die!

Dire consequences

History tells us that Adam did not say anything like that; instead he also got his teeth into the forbidden fruit. Had Adam told his wife where to go instead of bowing to peer pressure, chances are that either one, or both of them would have looked that snake straight in the eyes and said, Hiss off you deceiver; in which case they would not have been kicked out and we might all still be living in paradise.

As we know their combined disobedience and delusion had dire consequences; it meant that they were both thrown out of the Garden of Eden.

The promise from the deceiver was that they would not die but instead be as gods. The reality however was that, after the pair of them put their hands and mouth in the wrong place, they were demoted and lost their home.

What Adam and Eve taught us

Following our primitive urges, such as satisfying a sweet tooth or giving in to peer pressure may give us instant gratification but the prospects for long-term satisfaction are nil. It’s a no-brainer really. Adam and Eve were thrown out of paradise because of greed and stupidity. What we learned from Adam and Eve is that disobedience to our Maker gets us into BIG trouble.

Where does the concept of Living For Ever come from?

Around six thousand years ago humanity mucked up big time. Man and wife were enjoying all the perks of paradise when the wife was seduced and tricked by a snake. Her hubby took her word for it, instead of obeying the authority. Both of them busily pointing the finger instead of owning up.

Long story short; thanks guys for all of that, because it meant that humanity was kicked out of the garden. As an aside, it probably wasn’t an apple, more likely a fig that the couple thought irresistible enough to lose paradise over. Yep, just a bite out of a bit of food and they were out on their bum.

Curses and all and out they went

God was clear enough about it; curses and all, and out they went. Guards with flaming swords were put in place to keep away all of those who can’t keep their hands to themselves. To keep out those who blame others for their misfortune. To keep out those who cannot control their primitive urges and those who believe and follow creeps and snake oil merchants over authorities. To keep out those who don’t appreciate their good fortune but instead take what is not theirs to take and entice others to do the same. To keep out those who do not uphold standards but instead take the easy way out and join the disobedient. To keep out those who don’t heed warnings of deadly dangers (sins). I guess you’re getting the drift.

Adam and Eve got the drift too, driven right out of paradise they were.

And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

The above scripture quote is from the first three chapters of the bible. All things considered, humanity did not start out that well. It looked like we were going to be just fine as long as we obeyed and did no sneaky things. It was not to be. A sweet forbidden taste was all it took for the couple to forfeit paradise and be prevented from living for ever.

Adam called his wife the Mother of All Living and we sang a song about it which you can watch here.
