Is there such a thing as Godly love?
Yes, there is such a thing as Godly love. And God is very clear about it.
I’ve been through harrowing experiences in life and been blessed and lucky enough to have family members who were there for me through thick and thin.
For years on end for various reasons I haven’t been very mobile and things that may not seem like a big deal to someone else can be a huge thing to a person who is being cared for and dependent on others.
I remember some occasions where everyone would go out and party but one of my daughters stayed put and said, ‘I’d rather stay home with you, Mum.’
Of course she wanted to join the others at the music festival but at the time, she convinced me that she would rather stay home with me. Which made me feel all warm and fussy. This may be a little thing but at the time it meant a lot to me.
Naturally I said that I didn’t care and didn’t want to go anyway and I spouted all those kind of little white lies to make everyone else around me feel comfortable so that they would keep going about their business, but of course I did not want to be left behind.
It shows love to stay behind and nurture the one that is not able to go out. It shows love to forego fun and friends and instead care for someone that needs help.
Both my children have done that for me at various times.
On another occasion a severe tropical cyclone was about to hit our area and at one stage it appeared that we had to leave our home. At the time I could not travel, even leaving my bed was barely possible. I told my daughters to pack their gear and go.
They didn’t blink, they didn’t pack. They stayed put, with me, their Mum. I remember those occasions. Those instances of true love. I’ve been fortunate to experience many throughout my life.
Jesus said,
This is My Commandment that you love one another as I have loved you.
Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
You are My friends if you do what I command you. John 15:12-14
The word love is one of the most repeated words throughout the Bible. The word love is mentioned 686 times in the New International Version of the Bible. Love is very important to our Heavenly Father.
The 24 verses I selected on heavenly love are to remind us of our Father’s love. They are to remind us of Jesus’ love for us, and they serve as a reminder for us, how to love one and other.
You can download these verses from your computer, set them as screensavers, print them up and share with friends.
These Scripture verses are a great help with Bible studies and they can add an extra dimension to prayer times.
